• The lights were still on in Dan’s house as he walked back to it, so he knew that Sandra had not yet slept, even though it was almost ten in the night, and she usually retired earlier than that. He knew that she was waiting to interrogate him, and he groaned inwardly, not at all in the mood for an interrogation. He met her sitting in the living room with a tense look on her face. She smiled as he entered the house, but he could tell that the smile wasn’t a real one.
