Chapter 101 Confession (One)
- “So, Sam and Sandra met each other while they were in the university. He was a very bad influence on her and everyone who loved her told her so, but it seemed that the more she was warned about him, the more she wanted to be with him. He was, and obviously still is a manipulator, but she turned a blind eye to all his faults. Eventually, she began to do drugs with him and it got so bad that she had to be sent to rehab. She barely managed to graduate, but by the time she did, she had managed to get clean, from drugs, at least. However, she still wouldn’t hear jack about how much of a bad influence Sam was on her, much like she keeps doing, even now.
- I remember the first time I ever met him. She invited him to an already strained dinner to meet our parents, whom we’re not all that close to. This asshole came to dinner high as a kite, and of course, our parents didn’t like him, which was one of the few times they and I ever agreed on something. Sandra didn’t care, of course, but did her best to convince Sam to seek help. He did for a while, at least that was what we were made to believe, and then they came to tell my dad that they wanted to get married. He told them that they would get married over his dead body, but they eloped and got married anyway. At first, everything seemed fine, so I was very relieved. Sam seemed to be doing well and even had a job, and Sandra seemed to be happy.
- Then one day, she showed up at my house, beaten black, and blue. Both eyes were swollen shut, so much so that it was a wonder how she could see through them. At first, she tried to protect Sam by lying that she had gotten into a fight at a club and had gotten beaten up, but I overheard her crying on the phone at night and telling someone that she hated them for beating her up and was never going to forgive them. After much prodding, I managed to get the truth out of her. She told me that Sam had been abusing her, both physically and emotionally. In fact, she lost a pregnancy a week before she ran to my house after a beating he gave her.”
