Chapter 184 Putting Him In His Place (Two)
- “It was an emergency, Becca. It wasn’t just work. If it had only been work, I wouldn’t have gone. It was one of the kids with cancer that I work with. I was told he wanted to see me. I used to play with him a lot when he was healthier. Doctors said he was probably not going to make it past today or at the very best, tomorrow. I couldn’t let him down, not when I have the means to pop in and grant his dying wish. I wish you would understand how much these kids mean to me. Not just the kids, but also the adults. Everyone, really. If all my money could be taken and a cure would be found for them, I would gladly give it all up. As it is, I try to make the few ones I can reach to be as happy as possible. Margie was home with the kids, so I didn’t think that there would be any trouble.” Ryan explained.
- “That’s sad. Alright, alright. I understand why you had to leave, but next time, call me first.” Becca said, her heart softening towards him.
- This was one of the reasons why she had liked Ryan in the first place. He was generous to a fault and spent huge chunks of money on sick people and the less privileged every month. She used to go with him to visit sick kids in hospitals all the time when they were married. However, that did not mean that she was going to let a repeat of what had happened between them some days ago occur. They remained in silence for a while, each lost in their own thoughts.
