Chapter 48 Homecoming (One)
- By the time they got home, Ryan was quite tired, and for the first time in a long time, actually looked forward to catching some sleep. Margie was seated in the passenger’s seat, beside the driver, while he was seated in the spacious back of the new car which he had bought, just for this purpose ... for carrying the twins around since it was very spacious. There were perks to having so much money. The babies were safely and comfortably strapped to their car seats, which Margie had had the foresight to buy. Ryan could not believe that he hadn’t thought of such an important thing. Already, he was beginning to feel like such a failure. If he didn’t know the basic things, how on earth was he going to know and remember the little things?
- “Don’t think too much about it, Mr. Harris. That is why we’re all here to help. You can’t know everything, and that’s okay.” Margie had encouraged him when she saw how disappointed he was at himself for not having thought of the car seat, and he smiled at her thankfully. Maybe he was overreacting, but then, he had never found himself in such a position before, so he guessed that he was entitled to some overreaction.
- Little Tyler slept all through the ride, not waking up even once, and was so still that he caused a little fear to blossom in Ryan’s heart. Ryan watched him intently, and it was only when he saw the faint rise and fall of the child’s chest as he breathed that he relaxed a little. Taylor, on the other hand, was another story. That one was quite the noise maker, despite how young she was. She was not babbling yet, but cooed nonstop for the entire duration of the ride home, her eyes wide open.
