• “Hello, Ryan,” Becca said, still in the same calm and measured tone that belied the shock, dismay, and yes, longing that she felt at seeing Ryan.
• “Is it really you? I can’t believe my eyes! It’s been so long. What on earth did you do to your hair?” Ryan asked, moving closer and enveloping her in a hug. She received the hug automatically and stiffly, surprised beyond measure. What on earth was Ryan hugging her for?
