Chapter 160 Reprimand (Two)
- “Look, I don’t want to fight with you either. But you have to give me some time. You can’t just pop out of nowhere and start demanding stuff. I’m not averse to the idea of Emma knowing and spending time with her father, but you can’t just show up one day and think everything will be okay. Fine. You can pick her up after school tomorrow, but you won’t tell her the news just yet. I want to do it my own way.” Becca insisted stubbornly.
- “Okay, we have ourselves a deal,” Ryan said, sounding relieved. He was not above fighting dirty to have Emma in his life, but he didn’t want to have to fight with Becca any longer. He was not surprised when he heard the tone indicating that the call had ended without Becca saying goodbye. He sighed, knowing that he was to blame for her hatred of him, but wishing that things were not this way between them. Once upon a time, Becca had adored him and had literally hung on to every word that he said. Now, she acted as though the very sight of him irritated her and as though breathing the same air that he breathed was enough to cause her to fall sick and die.
- Becca hung up the call without saying goodbye to Ryan, or even knowing if he was done talking, feeling foolish as she did so. What was the point in antagonizing or being enemies with the father of her child? There was no point in doing so, she knew, but she had to keep Ryan at arm’s length, or else she knew without a doubt that she was going to make an utter fool of herself, and she had done enough of that to last a lifetime already.
