• Monique glanced at her cellphone, which was on the table, as it rang. She set down the folder she had been holding to pick up her phone and see who was calling at that moment. She saw that it was Clarinda calling. She promptly answered the call.
• "Hello, Mama?" Monique greeted Clarinda, Joshua's mother, when she answered the call.
• "Hi, Monique," Clarinda replied warmly from the other end of the line.
