• "Marisa, I'll be in my office. Just call me if we have any customers," Monique instructed her assistant, gesturing towards the cubicle as their customer who had scheduled their pet's second vaccine had just left. She smiled at Marisa, who nodded in acknowledgment.
• She walked into her office and settled down at her desk in her swivel chair. Monique was back to work after her wedding. She had been absent from her Pet Clinic for nearly two weeks due to her wedding preparations and the ceremony itself. During that time, the clinic had been closed. She couldn't leave Marisa in charge for so long, as Marisa wasn't a licensed veterinarian and still needed her supervision. It would have been different if she had left for just a day or two, but for such an extended period, it wasn't feasible. Even though the Pet Clinic was closed, she had ensured that Marisa was still paid for her assistance. Monique was aware of Marisa's financial needs, especially for her family.
• Initially, Marisa had hesitated to accept her salary, claiming that she hadn't been working. To avoid Marisa's embarrassment, Monique decided that she would pay her for looking after Cocoa and Lucky, their two dogs, in their absence. Marisa would be responsible for taking care of the two dogs, and they didn't want to leave them unattended while they were away on their honeymoon.
