Chapter 9 Kieran

  • Once Cookie left the room, I turned to face the others in the room and was surprised to see that Tristan had also made his way here. I really shouldn’t have been surprised though, because these four have always had my back. I held up a finger signaling everyone to wait just a second and I walked over to the cart that Cookie had wheeled into the living room.
  • I could clearly see that there was a case of orange soda on ice on the lower level of the cart and on top were two large domed lids and one smaller one. I elected to lift the lid of the smaller one first. I couldn’t help but chuckle as there was a single glass and a note. I could tell by the smell, what was in the glass, so I picked up the note first. ‘I know you don’t usually indulge but drink the bourbon first, it will make the rest of what you need to do a little more tolerable. Then enjoy dinner with your friends and lean on them to help you get by. -C’
  • I have had many similar notes from Cookie over the last several years, always imparting simple and sincere wisdom. I picked up the glass and downed the contents in one gulp and then lifted the other two domes after placing the glass back on the cart. ‘You never miss a trick, do you?’ I chuckled in the mind-link. ‘Enjoy Kieran,’ was her simple reply. I always got grilled cheese and french fries with orange soda when I was having a bad day, Cookie knew they were my favorite.
