Chapter 6 Frannie

  • “Found it. Sorry it took so long; mom stopped me to let me know that two more alpha heirs are going to be staying here at the pack house for the ball. One of them is the son of an east coast shipping mogul. That makes seven alpha heirs and sixteen beta heirs that will be here Frannie. We may have to face the music, we’re doomed. Here, try it on with your white go-go boots, you can wear the black ones to see Shaggy,” Hope said as she handed me the dress, I asked her for.
  • I laid the dress on my bed and walked to my closet to grab my white go-go boots and dropped them unceremoniously on the floor by my bed before I started stripping to try on the dress. “I don’t care how many of them there are. I am not accepting any of them, especially some east coast alpha, no matter how much money his family has. We’re gonna get ourselves that little beach house out in California and go to as many concerts and parties as we can. Zip me up?” I said, turning my back towards her.
  • The dress was exactly what I hoped for. It hugged my body and stopped at the top of my thighs. I hiked it up and sat on the edge of the bed to slip on the boots then stood to face my best friend. “What do you think? Will I be breaking hearts?” I teased as I posed.
  • “Something will be breaking, but it might be one of Cookie’s wooden spoons as your mama busts it across your fanny. Your daddy's gonna lose his shit. If you somehow manage to make it into public with that on, don’t bend over or everyone will see what you have to offer,” she said as she looked at me skeptically.
  • “Well, I will be doing my own hair and makeup, so neither of my parents will see me until it is too late. Besides, I will just give my daddy pouty eyes and tell him that the store clerk was being a pervert while I was trying on dresses, and I had no choice but to leave and make do with what was available to me. He’ll be so outraged by the idea of some pervert eyeing his daughter that he’ll just be happy that I made the effort,” I chuckled as I stepped over in front of her to undo the zipper.
  • “That will only work if your mama doesn’t ask to see your dress beforehand and drive you into the neutral territory herself. Then you’ll have no choice but to cover up just a bit more,” she teased. She’s right, my plan would only work if mom didn’t decide that we needed to go shopping, but if that happens, I will pick something ostentatious and refuse to accept anything else.
  • “What about you? What did Luna Felicity pick for her perfect angel to wear the night of the blood moon ball? I bet it is something long sleeved, high necked, and down to the floor,” I teased. I really do love my best friend and I think it is sweet how her mom always presents Hope as the angelic sweetheart of Shadow Moon pack, but sometimes she goes a bit overboard.
  • “It’s actually quite lovely and only one of those things is true; it is floor length. I have to go for my final fitting tomorrow to make sure it isn’t still too long,” she pouted.
  • “Well, tell me about it. You said the only thing I got right was that it is floor length, so what does it look like?” I questioned, as it had piqued my interest.
  • “Well, mama said it is supposed to be a secret, but I don’t think she’ll really mind if I tell you. It’s royal blue and form fitted to my knees and then it kind of spreads out like a mermaid tail with a little train. It is strapless with a bit of a v-cut, it pushes up my boobs, and it is covered in sequins that remind me of a romantic starry night,” she said dreamily. Uh oh, this already doesn’t look good for our future beach house and our journey to be like those cute little old ladies on television.
  • “Stay with me here Hopeful, there’s nothing romantic about getting all prissed up and showcased at a mating ball where every high ranked male wants his trophy high ranked female,” I said, grabbing her shoulders and giving them a shake. “Remember, concerts and beach parties galore?” I added for good measure.
  • “I know, I know. It’s just the dress is beautiful, and I actually feel like a fairytale princess in it. What if I really do find Alpha Charming at the ball? What if he isn’t like the alphas we know? I mean, isn’t there a possibility he could be a nice guy who happens to be an alpha?” she murmured softly as she nibbled on her fingernails.
  • “Quit biting your nails, your mom will have a cow if you don’t look picture perfect for the meat market. There’s no such thing as a nice Alpha, they are all alphaholes. Just stay strong for one night and then we get to go see Shaggy the next day,” I scolded gently. Sometimes I wondered if Hope and I would be friends if we weren’t raised under the same roof. She really is a gentle and sweet soul and well, I’m not.
  • “No, you’re right. We haven’t met any that aren’t totally full of themselves, even my dad is kind of a richard cranium,” she conceded, whispering the part about her dad. I couldn’t help but chuckle at the polite way she had called her dad a dickhead.
  • “Stick with me girlie, I will completely corrupt you one of these days. Let’s look in this magazine to see what other concerts we want to plan for this summer. I bet there will be some really good ones, there’s been a lot of good music coming out lately,” I said and flopped across the bed and picked up the Teen magazine I had been looking at earlier.
  • We had been ogling over different male celebrities for about an hour before someone knocked on the door. “Come in!” I yelled and closed the magazine and sat up just as mom opened my door.
  • “It’s time for dinner girls. Go ahead and get washed up and come down to the table. Frannie, I know it’s kind of late in the game, but we’re gonna go into the neutral territory with Luna Felicity and Hope tomorrow so we can get you a beautiful dress for the ball,” she informed us.
  • “Alright mama, we’ll be right down. We don’t have to go into the neutral territory, I am sure I can find something around here to wear,” I said hopefully.
  • “Nonsense. My baby girl needs to be one of the prettiest girls at the ball. Luna Felicity assures me that Hope is going to be stunning, and you should be too,” she replied and closed the door.
  • “Busted! You’re gonna have to up your game Frannie. I think your mama’s mischief detector must have been going off,” Hope giggled as I rolled my eyes.
  • “It’s a bullshit barometer Hopey. Come on, let's go downstairs, I smell A1 chicken and that means garlic and cheese mashed potatoes,” I said, grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the bedroom door.
  • We stopped by the bathroom to wash our faces and hands before heading down to dinner. I guess my cute outfit idea is out the window, but that doesn’t mean I am not going to be wearing something equally amazing.
