Chapter 39 Kieran

• ‘Alpha, I am so sorry to disturb you, but Jeni Sullivan is here in the living room to see you,’ Cookie mind-linked me and I sat up in bed. I looked around the room and realized I was alone, and I had a moment of wondering if it had all been a fantastic dream. Then I went to get out of bed and my hand hit the pillow Frannie had been sleeping on. Her scent drifted up to fill my nostrils and my heart calmed.
• ‘I will be down in a minute. I just need a quick shower, so I can feel human again,’ I replied and walked into the bathroom to do just that. I dressed quickly and slipped on a pair of shoes before heading out of my room. I was going to mind-link Frannie to see where she had gone off to, but I didn’t want her to think I was going to micromanage her every movement, so I let it be. I could go find her after I spoke with Jeni. After what she had been through, I owed it to Jeni to not keep her waiting.
• Descending the steps, I stopped in my tracks to see Frannie sitting on the couch with Jeni wrapped in her arms. Both of their faces were tear streaked and it stirred many emotions inside me, the biggest of which was anger. Neither woman had noticed me, so I turned quickly, heading back up the stairs and crossed the second floor and headed down the back steps.
