Chapter 57
- Marilyn's POV
- I found myself gulping down what was left of my wine before I could even taste the flavour. The evening air was cold and biting, maybe it was because the windows were wide open. It only added to the feeling of loneliness that settled in deep inside me. It was easier before because I knew Adeline would be coming home eventually. Sometimes, it was because my male friends were willing to keep me company, but we somehow drifted away when I couldn't make time for them like I used to.
- The sound of the clock ticking in my ears got louder, as though it was giving me some kind of timer. I had to make a decision, to sleep tipsy or to go to the store and grab some wine, and sleep drunk. The choice wasn’t hard for me, as I always felt like it was. My hand reached out towards the bottle that was resting on the coffee table close to my sofa, I hesitated for just a few seconds more before I drank what was left in one sip. It wasn’t long before the room spun around me and my vision blurred and went back to normal in an instant.
