Chapter 90

• “You can’t call me when you’re outdoors, Xan.” I had not known it but Xander was more attached to me than normal.
• “Selene, how long do we have to keep this up?” He asked over the phone, his tone tight with exhaustion. “She told me some irrelevant things, things I would know even without having to put up this rouse. Why are you doing this to me?”
• It had been three days since Xander and I ‘broke up’ and since we were broken up, we couldn’t risk anyone seeing us together so I didn’t go to see him and I forbade him from coming to see me. He was on the phone with me for several hours a day because he missed me but I warned him that we could not be on a call when he was out and someone could overhear our conversation. This was one thing he was having trouble complying with. It felt like I was roasting him from the inside.
