Chapter 399
- "Please, God…" Regina wasn't sure if to look up, stare at Sophia, stay seated or kneel. Her father had always told her, growing up, that God could hear you no matter where you were, no matter if you were standing or seated. 'If you pray with your heart, Regina. He will always hear you.' That's the voice that Regina was hearing inside of her heart right now. So, she did the best she could. "I know I lost my way with you. Especially once I married Leopold. He never believed in you and I guess in the long run I stopped believing, too. Especially after those long nights, praying and praying to you to change my life for the better and you never did." The corner of her lip tilted a little. "My father always told me that you worked in mysterious ways. You knew when the perfect time was to make things happen." Tears run down her cheeks that Regina quickly wipes away. Her voice breaks as she says, "I guess I never truly believed that until the day you brought Sophia into my life. Finally Leopold will get what's coming to him, and it only took twenty-five years for it to happen." She chuckles at her own sense of humor.
- The monitors in the room continuously beeping.
- Regina sniffs and wipes away another tear. "I know that the way Sophia and I met, it wasn't planned. I know that we did wrong- I did wrong- for kissing her that night the first time we were alone. But, I beg you… If you can hear me… Please. Don't punish her. Don't let her give up now. She has friends and family who need her." She sniffs as she gives Sophia's cold hand a gentle squeeze. "I need her to survive this. She still has so much to live for. Don't take that away from her now. Don't take her away from her family." Regina pauses. "I was always taught that you make miracles happen. And I don't know if you will judge us for loving one another in the end, but, here I am. At the bedside of the woman I love, asking you to save her. Asking for that one miracle." Her bottom lip trembles again as her voice breaks. "And if you do this one thing that I ask with my whole heart… For the first time ever, I will keep a promise to Sophia." She pauses, feeling her heart ache. "I will let her go. I will leave, find a life away from here and away from her so that she can finally be happy with someone who won't have her looking over her shoulder anymore. Not as long as Leopold is still alive." Her eyes look to Sophia and Regina cries, right at the blonde's bedside. Unaware that Elise was staring at her through the window with tears of her own running down her cheeks.
