Chapter 167
- Sophia ran until her lungs burned, forcing her to stop until she reached the house, her hand resting along one of the taller hedges as she caught her breath. Truthfully, her eyes had been begging her to cry, to allow tears to be replaced with the drops of sweat that now coated her face like diamonds sparkling against the sunlight that struck her skin. Her shirt had a dark puddle near her neckline that exposed clear evidence of just how much she had run.
- Regina came out of the double doors, her eyes trained on Sophia, and Sophia wondered if she had been waiting for her to return. Green eyes fell on Regina, and suddenly her heart was beginning to accelerate for other reasons entirely other than the marathon she had just forced herself to face.
- "Elise's asleep." Regina motioned with her hand toward the house, and Sophia's eyes could pick up on her car keys jingling along her hand.
