• Voices and footsteps approaching in the hallway brought them back to reality and made them separate abruptly. Both of them had flushed faces and agitated breaths. They looked at each other intensely, with longing, then with disappointment, disillusionment, and anger. Alessandra tried to compose herself, fixing her smudged lipstick and wrinkled dress as soon as her feet touched the ground. However, her appearance remained disheveled and noticeable.
