Chapter 54

• About thirty minutes before the scheduled time, he headed to the meeting room through the door of his office that connected to it, from the moment he entered, he regretted it, Alessandra was there, arranging folders and placing one at each seat for their respective partners. He wanted to go back to his office, however, she looked up and it was inevitable that their eyes met. Damn! Serious and without greeting her, he walked to his seat at one end of the table, didn't sit down, just placed the laptop on it, took out his phone from his pocket, dialed a number, turned his back and started a seemingly friendly chat in Italian with a friend, from what she could hear.
• Alessandra continued with her work, however, she couldn't help but be puzzled by his attitude. The day before, he had told her he would do anything to be with her, and yet today he was ignoring her? Wasn't she the one who was supposed to be upset, not him? She heard him hang up the call and saw him out of the corner of her eye, he was watching her, which only made her more nervous. She tried to ignore him and focus on her task, but with each passing second and feeling that intense gaze on her, her hands grew sweatier and her legs trembled. Nervousness got the best of her when, in an instant, one of the folders, the last one, clumsily fell onto the table and the documents scattered everywhere. She cursed under her breath. She would have to rearrange them quickly because the meeting was about to start.
