Chapter 55

  • The New Year's welcome for both of them was unsatisfactory, as were the following two months that passed by quickly. It was already early March, and just as Dominic had said the last time they argued in that boardroom, they didn't speak to each other again unless it was strictly work-related matters. They both showed unrecognizable indifference, as if nothing had ever happened between them. It was incredible how they could ignore each other, show that nothing mattered, and treat each other like strangers, not even daring to look at each other. The change was masterful, resounding, and above all...difficult.
  • It seemed immature, silly, and childish, but what helped them stay strong and distant all those months was avoiding eye contact at all costs. Yes, exactly that, both of them felt a huge weakness in each other's eyes and could feel that with just one look, all the barriers they had built could crumble at any moment.
  • What could be more painful than indifference itself?
