Chapter 96

  • She left the room again, sat on her huge king-size bed, and with sorrow, looked around. Tears welled up in her eyes, on the verge of overflowing. She had promised not to cry again, but there she was, alone, dejected, feeling weak, remembering and missing her. It was inevitable not to do so, as one of the last times she had been in that same room, she had been with her, immensely happy. Damn, he should be replacing her with someone else, as he always did and as she was doing with Niccolo. There were women everywhere, however, unfortunately, his body also betrayed him because there was not a single woman in the world that he desired, if it was not Alessandra D'Santi.
  • That morning he arrived once again at his office exhausted, fed up, and with all the discouragement in the world. As usual, he had slept very little, although it was also very rare. Lately, he had been feeling sick, too fatigued, and sometimes even nauseous. Probably the excess of work during all those weeks he was away was taking its toll on him, so he would ask Clara, once she returned from her vacation, to schedule an appointment with his private doctor. Because even that morning, he couldn't even have breakfast, as a horrible stomach ache prevented him from eating, and to make matters worse, he felt a little feverish.
  • It had been four days since he was back in London, luckily, he had only seen Alessandra from afar and on very few occasions. Clara, his assistant, was returning to her duties the following week. He had granted her vacation since the poor girl had worked very hard during the time he was away, and he was aware of it. He had to admit that the young woman was very good and quite diligent, so much so that her help was indispensable to him, and those days he was working alone were a bit exhausting and tiring, luckily, there wasn't much piled up.
