Chapter 241

  • The issue of money was no joke, because that morning, upon waking up, the first thing that caught Nadine's attention was a notification on her phone, a deposit in her bank account with an exorbitant figure. She didn't know whether to feel annoyed, outraged, or relieved, because it only served to create distance between them once again, a distance that should never have been broken, much less challenged.
  • She decided not to dwell on the matter too much, as, unfortunately, thinking about it in a certain way affected her and she was not willing to allow anything related to Antón Gnatovich to influence her. She got out of bed, stretched, and then went into the bathroom to brush her teeth. She returned to her room to finish the pending work, and by noon, she felt more at ease, with all her problems resolved.
  • It was Saturday, there wasn't much to do and the weather wasn't great either, so, with not many options, she went down to the kitchen and asked to be served something for lunch. It was the first time she had taken a seat in that gigantic dining room, and although she was already accustomed to loneliness, on this occasion, she felt it more palpable than ever, as if something inside her was changing. She ignored the strange unease and ate in silence, until a small bark disrupted the peace and harmony of the place.
