Chapter 124

  • Roshene cried in anguish in her room, with no one to share her sorrows. She missed her mother so much; life had been so unfair to take her away when she was just a child. Now she had to settle for a miserable life, thanks to a stepmother who sold her and blackmailed her to maintain her social status. Her delicate father was someone she couldn't speak openly to, and her best friend, Sasha, had been away from London for a month with no indication of when she would return.
  • She had been married for just over a month, and those weeks had been the worst of her entire existence, especially the wedding night when her husband demanded she fulfill her marital duties. She had given her virtue to a man she didn't love, a man who only disgusted and repulsed her.
  • She didn't understand Carson; he didn't mistreat her, and it would be a lie to say he did. He didn't offend or physically harm her; he simply demanded what he wanted because he didn't accept no for an answer. Contradicting him was not a good option, nor was it in her best interest, as she could see through his blue eyes that with just a snap of his fingers, she and her family would suffer.
