• "Then why didn't you end things sooner?" Ruben questions, irritation evident in his tone. "She wrecked you. You stayed locked up in your room for weeks on end. The only time I've seen you smile since then was when you met Cielo. When you were with Mia, your visits were always filled with arguments. Even your friendship with Danny was strained because he didn't like her influence over you."
• Cain shakes his head, reflecting on the time wasted in that tumultuous relationship. "Rose-colored glasses, I suppose. She was my first love, and when we began drifting apart, I clung to the memories of what we once were. Now, I'm just glad it's over and that you convinced me to attend the Claiming Ceremony. Without that, I wouldn't have met her."
