Chapter 26

  • The obnoxious blare of her ringtone, specifically set for disaster situations, rouses Cielo from sleep. Her inner wolf grumbles in annoyance and she finds herself in agreement. Who would be calling at this time? And who had the audacity to leave her cell phone with her? On a positive note, Dr. Benson had finally removed her oxygen tubes, though she was still hooked up to an IV drip for her pain medication. She chooses to disregard her ringing phone, letting it divert to voicemail.
  • When her phone starts ringing once again, she can't help but growl in irritation. Can't a woman recuperate in peace? She props herself up in bed, realizing she's rolled onto her stomach. Perhaps that's why Dr. Benson had detached her oxygen.
  • With a groan, she picks up the phone and sees over thirty missed calls from various council members. Can they not function without her? "What is it, Councilman Geoff?" she asks.
