  • Despite her best efforts, the tears in her eyes continued to fall across her cheeks despite her efforts to keep them contained. She took a deep breath and wiped the tears from her eyes with her palm, all the while holding her breath to keep her heartbeat and emotions under control. When she was certain that no more tears would flow from her eyes, she pushed her lips together in a tight line grin to fool everyone.
  • She went into the kitchen because she was gradually becoming able to tolerate the pain of the continuous prickling of the knife into her heart. He had brought with him an unknown female companion, so she went into the cupboards and the refrigerator to grab the materials she would need to prepare breakfast for both Zachary and the woman he had brought with him.
  • Her heart was against serving the other woman who was presently enjoying Zachary's affections; but, she was afraid that if she did not comply with Zachary's request, he would become even more enraged than he already was with her. Eleanor was unsure of what she had done to cause him to be so enraged towards her, but she was determined to do all in her power to restore their relationship to its previous state.
