Chapter 25
- First, I had to drop Allie off at her house. She kept repeating that I had to let her know immediately if anything happened. When I entered the work parking lot, I got out with a bag filled partly with my anxiety medication, pain relievers, and bandages to change the one I was wearing. I was determined to get back to my normal life. I passed through the security check and went up to the Bornout floor, surprising Cass, who hugged me with joy, causing me to suppress a groan of pain. I had to tell her I had been out sick with a pretty nasty flu, and strangely enough, she believed me instantly.
- Now that I had Christian's schedule all sorted out, I knew he wouldn't be free until two o'clock. So, for the next few days, I rearranged the appointments that were already scheduled and made calls to notify and confirm dates and times. I was sure Christian would be angry to see me here, or at least that's what I assumed. So, as soon as my shift on his floor ended, I headed straight to the 23rd floor. Mike was so happy to see me back, without even asking why I had been absent. Instead, he sent me to see Anne, who had been asking about me non"stop. I took a deep breath, left my things at my desk, and grabbed my notebook to walk to the conference room."
- "Hello, Anne!" I greeted her as I entered, catching her by surprise. "I heard you were looking for me."
