• It had been a few weeks and Alex had still not spoken to Scarlett. They went about like ordinary housemates, barely saying anything to one another.
• Contrary to her plan, Scarlett had not moved out. She had fully moved into his room with her belongings, arranging them in his closet, not minding if she was throwing herself at him. At this point, the only thing that mattered was regaining her friendship with him.
• When she slept in his room at night, he barely touched her. They were far apart and he would always turn his back on her. The few occasions he had paid attention to her was one time she had a nightmare. He had shaken her fervently and drew her close in his embrace, rocking her to quietness.
