• Scarlett hesitated to go into his room for the earlier part of the night. Some men had helped her take her things into his room, but she had been reluctant. She had done away with her stilettos long after dinner and had helped put the children to bed.
• Whenever she stepped into the corridor, she felt Lucas lurking in the dark outside his study, and staring down at her. She would walk away without looking back.
• She went downstairs to the kitchen and poured herself a glass of wine as she pondered on what her new life held in stock for her. It was not the way she had planned it all, but things were not always the way one planned it, and this situation she found herself was no exception.
