Chapter 36

• Scarlett woke up and touched Lucas' side of the bed, but it was empty. She needed help getting out of bed. It had been such a rollercoaster of emotions for her since Clara came back, and Lucas seemed to be entertaining her excesses.
• She finally managed to get out of bed and slid a jacket over her slim frame. It barely covered her already bulging tummy. She knew that the kids were already off to school, and she had told Danielle that she would not make it to the culinary school because she had a doctor's appointment later in the day.
• As she approached Lucas' study, she could hear muffled voices as though he was speaking to someone. She waited by the door and eavesdropped so she would know who it was. She could not believe her ears at the sudden realization. She looked at her phone. It was barely 8 am, and Clara was already at the house.
