Chapter 39

• Lucas pressed his ears to the bathroom door as he tried to make out what Clara was saying. He had seen her enter the bathroom and turn on the tap before she answered her phone. She thought he was asleep, but he was waiting for the opportunity to know what she was hiding from him.
• "I said I just need a little more time," she whispered over the phone. There was a brief pause.
• "I said you do not need to handle this yourself. Soon, the money would be sent to you," she whispered again.
