• Scarlett knew that if she had to be with Lucas, and if she loved him as she truly claimed to, then she had to be ready to fight with him despite what came her way.
• Lucas was one of the most powerful men in the state, and even the government recognized him. She accompanied him to some of his meetings when the presence of his spouse was required, and she saw the type of people he dined with. She never thought that she would get to associate with them in her entire existence.
• He took her to galas and dinners that were meant for the high and mighty in the state. Some were nice to her, but others, mostly the women were mean to her, as though she had stolen something from them. Lucas was no doubt, the trophy, and she had won it.
