• Alex had barely spoken to Scarlett since they got home the previous night. He had gone straight to his bedroom and had a quick shower before he lay down to have a good night's rest.
• Scarlett had crawled up the bed in the middle of the night and lay beside him. He turned his back to her, rejecting her offer for a cuddle. She was not pleased with his attitude, but she understood where his anger sprung from.
• When she woke up in the morning, he had already gotten out of bed. She took out her nightgown jacket and placed it over her body.
