Chapter 61
- “What have I done?”
- Ugo asked herself for the one thousandth time as she paced the gazebo. She couldn’t sit or stand still, guilt was eating her. She’d acted in fear and in a hurry, now she has to live with the guilt. When that man threatened her, all she wanted was for them to be gone. She wanted to protect herself and her son so she didn’t think. Now Dante was gone, gone with all his plans for the town. She did not only make her people lose the promise of a thriving town; she took away their chance of ever having it. Dante and his people were wealthy, powerful business men. If it got out that they tried to invest in their town and were run out of town for no just reason, no investor will near their town again. And people will conclude that people of Waterside were demented and cursed.
- Ugo was never a selfish person, she could not remember once she had done anything out of selfishness, except seven years ago when she had agreed to switch off her phone so she could have uninterrupted fun with her love. Even then, she hadn’t agreed for herself, she had agreed because the man she loved pleaded with her and she saw that he was afraid that something might interlude and spoil there time. This time though, what she did was the height of selfishness she could ever imagine. She needed to make amend, but how?
