Chapter 48
- “I like Uncle Dante,” Earl declared
- If Ugo hear one more praise of Uncle Dante, she would scream. Since they came in from the barn, her son had not stopped talking about him. True, she was impressed with his willingness to dirty himself with such work, she could not forget he was a fraud, a man of two faces. Granted, she was a naïve eighteen year old who still read fairy tails and strongly believed in them, thus she was susceptible to his charms. Yet, he had looked sincere, everything about him had been plain and open or so Ugo had thought. On occasion, she felt he was troubled and even sad but not for once did she feel that he was playing her.
- He was the one who did not want their day to end each night. He held onto her as if he was afraid that she will disappear if he turned his back. He was there when she fell asleep, and by her bedside watching her when she woke up. One morning she had caught him unawares and saw the fear in his eyes.
