Chapter 55

• “How can I survive his presence in this town?”
• Ugo wondered as she drove her bike to her diner. If she didn’t go to the diner, it would still run smoothly as if she were there; she knew that. She didn’t want to meet Dante again, at least not today but she knew Israel, the palm wine tapper would be at the diner. She wanted to discuss with him about the palm wine that would be needed at Ben and Kenny’s wedding. He was not the only wine tapper in their town but he was the best and the only one she used. Some times, he would not bring enough saying Ugo did not call him on his new cellphone to remind him. He liked it when people called him on his cell phone. But Ugo needed to see him face to face. Now that Ben and Kenny’s wedding had been confirmed and it was few days away, everybody must have heard and talking about it. She wanted to make sure Israel knew he was the first person she talked to.
• His wine was the best, he knew it, thus the attitude at times. She had so many people to see about the wedding. Kenny had come back to the house before she left for diner and told her in her usual condescending manner that she will allow her to cater the wedding despite all that had happened. Ugo wanted to ask despite what but didn’t, it was a waste of time. She was tempted to tell Kenny off but only for a second. Everybody in Waterside expected her to cater the wedding. She had done so for people in the past even without payment, what reason would she give for refusing to do so for her friend?
