Chapter 6

• “That bitch!”
• Kenny hissed as she watched her man with Ugo in what seemed to her as a mild argument. She couldn’t believe it, Ugo was already flirting with her man. She stood at a corner watching until her friend hissed at her fiancé before she turned around and marched away. Ugo seemed angry and Dante looked shell-shocked, as if he couldn’t quite believe whatever she had said to him. If she didn’t knew they’ve never met before, she would’ve thought that maybe they were mortal enemies or engaged in a lovers quarrel but she wasn’t really surprised. That has always been Ugondu’s strategy with men, always showing dislike at first meeting, acting as if she hated men when the opposite was the truth.
• Kenny had suffered her friend’s pretentious act her entire life. While growing up, people had always compared her with her best friend and found her wanting. To them, Ugo was perfect. She was more beautiful, more kind, more loyal, more everything and Kenny was tired of it. Even her relationship with Ben was marred with his love for Ugo. When Kenny met Dante after her breakup with Ben and he proposed, Kenny believed that finally, she would have something that her friend would die to have. But it seemed she was already planning to take Dante away from her with her innocent act.
• True, Dante probably sought Ugo out but she made sure of it. During their meal, Ugo made it clear she didn’t like him and to someone like Dante Henchman, the man in charge of the entire Henchman’s empire, the man both entire Ultra City and Silver City feared. He’s a man who nobody says NO to, so her friend making it look like she didn’t like him will seem like a challenge thrown his way and he had obviously risen up to the challenge. That was Ugo’s way of attracting men to her, pretending not to be interested in the man, thereby presenting herself a challenge to the guy.
• Kenny had never tried to compete with Ugo except where Ben was concerned. Ben was the only one she had ever wanted and believed she had until four months ago when he called it quits. Thinking of it still hurt but she was going to make him regret every vile word he had thrown at her once she married Dante Henchman. But how can she achieve that if he ended up falling for her best friend as usual? No, she will not allow it. This time, she will fight Ugo with everything she had and she planned to win. Kenny smiled at her fiancé and offered her lips for a quick kiss. Dante responded absent mindedly but she pretended not to notice.
• They’ve never been intimate but he always paid special attention to her whenever they’re in the same room. He had pursued and wood her hard since she wasn’t impressed by the size of his band account. Though at end of the day, she had agreed to marry him because she knew Ben would be not only be jealous, he would be intimidated by a man like Dante. She doesn’t love Dante, how can she when she had only loved one man in her life.
• She wasn’t sure she even like Dante, she didn’t feel attracted to him either, yet she was determined to use him to get her revenge on that faithless Ben. Now, her goal is in jeopardy because of Ugo. She tried to push everything away as she looked to and smiled at Dante.
• “I was looking for you, everyone was looking for you” she purred
• “I’m sorry, I just wanted to stretch my legs” he replied without mentioning anything about speaking with Ugo.
• Kenny wanted to ask him about it but decided not to. Dante is her man and she has no intention of dragging him with anyone. Asking him what he was discussing with Ugo would give more credit to Ugo and force him to think about her once more, she would not give room for that to happen. She will deal with this in her own way.
• With a smile, she offered her arm to Dante, he accepted it and they both walked back into the house.
