Chapter 88
- Paralyzed by shock, Kathryn could do nothing but watch as Dave methodically closed the door behind him and secured it, effectively trapping them both in Dawn's apartment. A relentless throbbing pulsated in her head, her eyes stung as if they were on fire, and a persistent ringing echoed in her ears. She could only watch as he steadily advanced on her, the gun in his hand unwaveringly aimed at her.
- "Dave, what are you doing?" she stammered, her voice quaking with fear. She began to inch backward, desperate to put as much distance between them as possible, but Dawn's apartment was small. Her options for escape were limited. If she could just make it to the kitchen where her duffel bag was, she could grab her own weapon. However, the cold, hard look in his eyes suggested she wouldn't reach it in time.
- Dave made a tutting noise, shaking his head in a warning. "I'd stay perfectly still if I were you. Things could get messy if you try to run. We wouldn't want poor Dawn to have to clean up blood from every corner of her apartment."
