• The next morning, Kathryn woke up in bed, entirely alone. Not an unusual occurrence, but after spending another night being swept away by Daniel's passion, only to have him spoon her for half the night after listening to her heart-wrenching story, she had at least expected him to be asleep beside her.
• Reaching out, she traced the spot where he had fallen asleep just a few hours ago. The sheets were still warm. Kathryn sat up in surprise, scanning her vacant room.
