Chapter 28

• Kathryn woke up abruptly with a gasp, clutching her chest. Her heart was pounding hard, thumping against her palm as she took one shallow breath after another. Sitting up, she scanned the dimness of her room, struggling to comprehend where she was. What year it was.
• She despised waking up like this, after reality and memory clashed, leaving her scared and uncertain of her surroundings.
• Taking another shaky breath, Kathryn tried to recall her dream. The sooner she remembered, the sooner she could fall back asleep, hopefully for a few hours before daylight broke.
