Chapter 69

• Unable to bear the torment radiating from her any longer, Daniel handed Zack his gun and cradled her face, gently wiping away the fresh tears that began to fall. "I'll explain everything when we're away from here, Kathryn," he told her firmly, trusting Zack to keep an eye on them while he attempted to put a band-aid on a wound that was a mile wide. "Darling, please just let me explain." She leaned into him, taking a shuddering breath before she slapped his hands away, pushing him away until there was a considerable distance between them.
• Zack handed him back his gun, his face expressionless.
• She took a step back, and then another, until she was closer to her brother and his henchmen than she was to Daniel. She turned around, keeping her back to all of them, like a wounded animal sensing nearby predators ready to consume her.
