Chapter 68

• Her eyes popped open, looking beyond Thomas to catch sight of Bran Gregory, her brother. The man that she'd foolishly thought would protect her from the world when she'd been young and naive. He looked so much older than she remembered, as if the past five years had been at least doubled for him. His dark hair was peppered with gray, and he had worry lines along his eyes and mouth, as if he spent most of his days frowning and stressed.
• "Ach, Davina," Bran whispered, pushing Thomas out of the way so that he could see her. His eyes filled with tears, and despite everything, Kathryn felt her own tears rise to the surface. "Look at you, lass. All grown up. And your beautiful golden locks, I never thought you'd part with them, but black is a lovely shade on you."
• "Bran, I-I don't know what's happening. How did you find me?"
