Chapter 61

• Daniel was tense as he drove toward his downtown office that morning. He and Zack hadn't spoken about last night yet, having barely exchanged a few words when they'd woken up before Kathryn, and he was both looking forward to and dreading their inevitable conversation today.
• He was hoping like hell that his unconventional plan of persuading Zack to let go of his grief, if only for a night, had worked in some capacity, allowing some of the hate in his heart to ease. It had been a risk, inviting Zack into their bed under false pretenses, but he planned on revealing all of his reasons to him today, along with the news that their revenge regarding Kathryn's family was officially over.
• Daniel couldn't go through with it. Not anymore. Not after he realized this morning just how much Kathryn had wedged herself into the dead organ he'd once called his heart. It was beating again, slowly but surely, and it was all for her.
