Chapter 19
- The trip across town to her apartment took no more than twenty minutes. Zack parked next to the sidewalk, and Kathryn was out of the car before he even switched it off, taking in the delightful scent emanating from the deli below her apartment. It was just after midday, meaning the deli had just opened. Everything would be fresh, and she planned to stop by on her way out.
- She didn't wait for Zack, instead using her key to unlock the side door of the building. She ascended a pair of creaky, old stairs and down a narrow hallway, faintly hearing orders being shouted from the floor below.
- Zack must have caught the door before it closed, because she heard him mutter a curse, the stairs groaning ominously as he followed her up.
