• What could she possibly be hiding? Different thoughts crossed his mind, each one leaving him more uneasy than the last. Was she in some kind of trouble? Did she have a secret life he didn’t know about?
• Jason shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but it was hard not to. He had seen a flicker of something in Lucy’s eyes — fear, perhaps? Guilt? He wasn’t sure. But he was certain that something wasn’t right, and the uncertainty was eating him alive.
• His phone rang, breaking his train of thought. He glanced at the screen and saw Greg’s name flashing. For a second, he considered letting it go to voicemail, but he knew Greg would just keep calling. With a sigh, he pressed the answer button and put the phone to his ear.
