• “ I thought I saw Jason, ” Lucy said in a timid whisper, her eyes welling up with tears as she dared a glance up at Rachel. “ I just—I couldn’t let him slip away again. ”
• “ Spare me that bullshit! ” Rachel’s voice was harsh, but her words were laced with genuine concern. She threw her hands up in exasperation, pacing back and forth in front of Lucy. “ This isn’t some rom-com where you can just run into the street and find your prince charming, Lucy! If your paths are meant to cross, then it will happen, but not like this. You can’t keep throwing yourself in harm’s way. Think about your baby! ”
