• “ On the way to the club, I made Chris stop at this little store. I don’t know why—I just felt like it. And while I was there, I met this young woman. She was working behind the counter, probably in her mid-twenties, pregnant, and… well, she was different. ”
• Kelvin raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “ Different how? ”
• “ She was kind, strong-willed, but there was a softness to her that was almost disarming. ” Dianne paused, searching for the right words. “ I could tell she’s been through a lot. But despite her situation, she had this glow—like she wasn’t going to let life beat her down. We ended up chatting for a bit, and I couldn’t stop thinking how sad it is that she’s doing all this on her own. What kind of jerk knocks up a woman and then just disappears? ”
