• “ I’m sorry, Jason, I can’t meet today. I’m busy with work. ”
• He stared at the screen, reading and re-reading the words. His shoulders slumped as he sighed deeply. She had said no. He had been so sure she would say yes. He felt a pang of frustration gnawing at his insides. Why did it have to be so hard? Why couldn’t she just say yes?
• He let out a groan of frustration, running a hand through his hair. He really wanted to see her, to talk to her, to understand why she had disappeared from his life without a word. And now, when he had finally found her again, she was keeping him at arm’s length. It was maddening.
