• The phone stopped ringing, and silence filled the room once more. He picked it up, checking the notifications. No message from Lucy, just another missed call from Evelyn. He set the phone back down, trying to refocus on his work. But his frustration only grew.
• Why did Evelyn keep calling? What did she want now? He had made it clear that they were over, that he wanted nothing more to do with her. But Evelyn was persistent, and she didn’t like taking no for an answer. He knew she was probably plotting something, trying to get under his skin.
