Chapter 20
- When Stephanie got home, she was too tired to do anything. The kitchen was a mess, there were piles of dirty dishes that needed immediate washing, and she couldn’t stand up from the couch. Today had been hectic, not like anything that she’d been expecting, but she was comforted by the fact that she was doing her own thing, and not relying on her parents. Scooping a spoon from her half-finished bowl of vanilla ice cream, Stephanie scrolled through the cheesy romance section of Netflix, thinking about Jaccobs. Who knew that the same man she’d insulted would turn out to be her boss? And a truly dedicated one for that matter. Stephanie loved the way his office was so personal, and showed how much love he had for Primer Magazine.
- Would she be like that someday? Maybe, if she worked hard enough, and Stephanie planned to. She would be so good that he wouldn’t be able to let go of her. Stephanie didn’t know where she found the strength, but she finished up her ice cream, and loaded the dishes into a dishwasher. Thereafter, she rinsed them, leaving them on the rack to dry. Taking a seat on the couch again, Stephanie settled for a historical romance with pints of mystery: The Cook Of Castamar. It looked very interesting from the premise, but she found herself falling asleep before the series had gone halfway. Stephanie awoke sometime at night to use the loo, and she muted her tv, and went to bed.
- The next morning, she was up before the birds crowed, and she had her bath, and prepared the outfit she was going to wear. This time, she took ample time in selecting a shirt, which wasn’t too tight, and which left room to breathe. Then, she went for black slacks, and a pair of platform heels, just in case there was any running around to do. Now fully clothed, Stephanie went about preparing breakfast. She’d decided on buttered toast, with cheese and eggs. And as she whisked the eggs in a bowl, she continued checking the time. It was a new day, and Jacob’s warning of lateness made her get up from bed an hour before her alarm was to ring. Stephanie took great care in frying her eggs, as she’d seen the maid do once, she didn’t want it to get too brown.
