Chapter 281 The August Visitor

  • Eleanor sat curled up on the couch, a warm blanket draped over her legs as she laughed at the movie playing on the TV. It was one of those light-hearted romantic comedies Isaac had teased her about, but she couldn’t help herself. The banter, the over-the-top characters—it was exactly what she needed to unwind. She glanced at her phone resting on the side table, half-expecting a text from Isaac checking up on her. Ever since she had found out she was pregnant, he had become a little overprotective, insisting she take a leave from work to rest.
  • Eleanor had resisted at first. She wasn’t one to sit around all day, and being pregnant didn’t mean she was suddenly incapable of handling her usual tasks. But Isaac had been persistent, gently reminding her that her health and the baby came first. In the end, she had agreed, though she still teased him about being too much of a worrywart.
  • As another joke played out on the screen, Eleanor let out a hearty laugh, covering her mouth in surprise at how loud it was. She was alone, after all. Isaac had already left for the office, his absence leaving the house quieter than usual. It felt strange, living here with him, but it was a good kind of strange—like they were building something new together.
