Chapter 38 Thirty Seven
- I was feeling restless as we continued our meal, and James noticed it. He asked me if anything was wrong, and I told him that I was fine. I tried to focus on what he was saying about his work as a pastor and how his parents reacted when he told them the news. I had never met his parents before, but from what he told me, they were nice. As we drank the wine James had ordered, I glanced steadily in Zevran’s direction, feeling relieved that he had left without seeing me. He was preoccupied with his phone. I was worried about whether he would come to our table, as I didn’t want to put up a fake facade in front of James.
- As we walked out of the restaurant, James said, “I want to show you something.”
- “Where? What?” I asked him, my head at the level of his ear as I lifted my chin to look at his face.
